Designed by Patrick Nickell and first published in 2004 by Alderac Entertainment Group, Stormbreaker is a game of Viking-themed tactical combat for two players. Each player controls a force of 24 figures, which they use to attempt to capture four out of six objectives on the board. The game uses a unique card-based movement system, which allows players to move their figures around the board in a variety of ways.

The game is played on a square board divided into 36 squares, with each player's starting area in the middle of one side. Each player has a force of 24 figures, which they can deploy anywhere within their starting area. The game is played in a series of rounds, with each player taking a turn to move all of their figures.

On a player's turn, they first draw a card from the deck, which will determine how many squares their figures can move this turn. They then choose one of their figures and move it up to the number of squares shown on the card. Figures can move in any direction, including diagonally.

Once a figure has moved, the player can then choose to either attack an adjacent figure, or move one of their figures into an empty square. If a figure attacks another figure, both figures roll a die and compare the results. The higher number wins, and the loser is removed from the board. If a player moves one of their figures into an empty square, they can either claim that square as their own, or they can place one of their figures on an adjacent square.

The game ends when one player has captured four out of six objectives, or when one player has been reduced to fewer than four figures.
